The Canadian government conducts an Express Entry draw about every two weeks. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) draws candidates from the Express Entry pool and invites them to apply for Canadian permanent residency. Due to COVID-19, Canada is focusing on Canadian Experience Candidates and Express Entry candidates with provincial nomination through program-specific express entry draws the Canadian government is mostly prioritizing candidates from within Canada. it is said that the next expected Canada express entry draw will take place on September 14, 2022. The Express Entry program is the fastest and most popular immigration program for Canada PR Visa.

Overview of Express Entry 

The Canada Express Entry Program is an electronic immigration program designed by the Government of Canada. It allows people from all over the world to apply for immigration to Canada based on their skills. As we are much aware that Canada needs skilled workers for various trades, it has come up with the Express Entry Program to attract as many qualified people as possible. So basically the Canada Express Entry Program allows skilled workers to immigrate to Canada and work there and might as well lead to a person getting a PR. Since there are different levels of skilled workers, the Canadian government has designed four different programs within the Express Entry. These programs are known as economic immigration programs as they attract skilled workers and help Canada economically. The different Programs designed are :

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP): It is designed for all skilled workers with foreign work experience to immigrate to Canada. it requires an excellent understanding of English and French language. it also requires proof of stability which shows continuous work experience for a year in the specific occupation within the last 10 years
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP): This program is for skilled workers in specific trades. It requires a Level 5 or 4 of language proficiency in English or French and also requires a valid Job offer from a Canadian Company stating that they possess high skills in their trade.
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC): It is for those skilled workers who have work experience within Canada and hold Level 5 or 7 in language proficiency in English or French and should have a year of experience in Canada for the last 3 years
  • Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) It is designed for the provinces of Canada so that they nominate and select particularly skilled workers which fulfill their needs. The provinces manage this program and only use the Express Entry portal to receive profiles online.

All the programs mentioned above vary in the requirement to qualify based on language skills, occupation, and work experience.

Latest Express Entry Draw and Updates.

The Express Entry Draw that took place last month on 31st August which was the 230th draw issued an Invitation to Apply (ITA) to 2750 Candidates. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cut-off for the August 31 Express Entry draw was 516 points 9 lower than the previous draw. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) released an update about Canadian immigration processing times, including Express Entry  

where Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada stated that there are currently 2.4 million immigration applications in Canada’s processing inventory and as of July, 99 percent of Express Entry applications were considered backlogged which may take longer than 6 months.

Steps To Apply For The Express Entry Program?

The Canada Express Entry Program is a points-based system to evaluate applicants. The main objective of this system is to identify applicants who have the highest chance of succeeding after they move to Canada, The higher the points, the greater the chances of getting an invitation to apply (ITA) for permanent residency in Canada. Following are some steps that will guide you through your Express Entry Program journey:

  •  If you have done your education outside Canada, you should get your Educational Credentials Assessment (ECA) which proves that your educational qualification is equal to that of the Canadian educational system. 
  • The next step is completing the required English language proficiency tests. The minimum score is 6 bands in IELTS and your test score should not be less than 2 years old at the time of application.
  • You will also have to create your online Express Entry profile. which should include details about your age, work experience, education, and language skills based on which you will get a score.
  • If your profile makes it to the Express Entry pool, it is ranked based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score .your profile gets included in the Express Entry pool only if you have the required CRS score.
  • If you get selected through the Express Entry pool you will be given an Invitation to Apply(ITA) from the Canadian government after which you can proceed for documentation of your Permanent Residency visa.
