Visit Your Kids in Canada Without Any Trouble

Canada believes in a family reunion and recognises the value of family. As a result, it provides several options for immigrants to bring their families to Canada. Most immigration programs are designed in a way that immigrants can bring their families along with them. The Parents and Grandparents program, for example, allows Canadians to simply call their parents or grandparents to visit & stay with them in Canada.

Eligible parents and grandparents can visit their family in Canada for up to two years without having to renew their status with the Parent and Grandparent Super Visa. The Super Visa is a multi-entry visa that allows numerous entries for up to ten years. The main distinction is that the Super Visa permits an individual to stay in Canada for up to two years at a time, but a 10-year multiple entry visa only allows for a six-month stay for each entrance. A licensed Canadian immigration attorney in UAE may assist you in applying for a super visa for your family members with ease.

New Enhancements To The Super Visa For Parents and Grandparents

Kyle Seeback, a Conservative Party member who sits on the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration, wants certain adjustments made to the program. She presented a bill that would enable parents and grandparents to stay for five years without having to renew their visas. In the bill, she also stated that Super Visa candidates should be able to acquire medical insurance from countries other than Canada which would  save families hundreds of dollars in insurance expenses each year. She also suggests that the government reduce the low-income threshold for Canadians who want to host their parents or grandparents.

The bill has already passed its first and second readings and is currently being considered by the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration . It will only become law after passing the Senate's third reading and consideration. Only once the Governor General grants royal assent to the bill, it will come into effect.

Who is Eligible To Sponsor A Parent or Grandparent By Invitation (Parent & Grandparent Program):

If you’re invited to apply, there are 2 applications that are submitted and reviewed for the parents and grandparents program:

  • the sponsorship application and
  • the permanent residence application

If both applications are approved, you’ll sign an agreement called an undertaking that starts on the day the person you’re sponsoring (and their family members, if this applies) becomes a permanent resident of Canada.

You Can Sponsor Your Own Parents and Grandparents if:

  • you’re at least 18 years old
  • you live in Canada
  • you’re a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act
  • you have enough money to support the people you want to sponsor

You Can’t Sponsor Your Parents and Grandparents If:

  • if you aren't invited
  • you’re less than 18 years old
  • you won’t live in Canada when you apply to sponsor your parents and grandparents and/or when your parents and grandparents become permanent residents
  • you’re not a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act
  • you’re a temporary resident, that is you’re visiting, studying, or working in Canada on a visa or permit
  • your permanent residence application is still in the process
  • your proof of income shows you don’t have enough money to support the people you want to sponsor
  • are in jail, prison, or penitentiary
  • didn’t payback

-an immigration loan

-a performance bond

  • court-ordered family support payments such as alimony or child support
  • didn’t give the financial support you agreed to when you signed a sponsorship agreement to sponsor someone else in the past
  • declared bankruptcy
  • receive social assistance for a reason other than a disability
  • were convicted of a violent criminal offense, an offense against a relative, or any sexual offense inside or outside Canada
  • can’t legally stay in Canada and must leave the country because you received a removal order

Citizens and permanent residents of Canada who are unable to bring their family members to Canada through the Parents and Grandparents Program might explore the Parents and Grandparents Super Visa as a backup alternative.

The Parents and Grandparents Program in Canada, which grants permanent residence to qualifying applicants through a lottery system, is extremely popular. However, the deadline for submitting an 'Interest to Sponsor' form was in 2020, and Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) recently said that it was still reviewing applications from people who received invitations to apply. IRCC officials are unsure when a fresh opportunity for submitting the paperwork to show interest in bringing family members to Canada will open.
